Sina Queyras confirms return of Lemon Hound online journal

Sina QueyrasPoet and Concordia University English lecturer Sina Queyras has confirmed the return of Lemon Hound – the online literary journal she originally launched as single-author blog in 2005 and shuttered for financial reasons in May 2015.

The journal offered insights Queyras felt hadn’t been put forth from other outlets, publishing essays, poetry, fiction, reviews, and more, but she says it eventually “became too costly and difficult to juggle the demands of the site with my job and twin toddlers. I was basically giving up my own creative time.”

A portion of the workload has now been taken on by an unnamed patron in Ottawa who has offered technical and site hosting support. Though the revived journal will be similar in content and vision, it will take a slightly new direction, showcasing student-written content in conjunction with a creative-writing course Queyras teaches at Concordia. The new site will be more of “a pedagogical model, so I can train students to be creative, critical writers and be innovative in the ways they write about literature and literary events,” Queyras says.

Lemon Hound also is actively seeking funding to pay its authors, which the poet says is a crucial and basic form of advocacy as a writer herself. “It’s just too easy to set up a site and take people’s work for free,” she says. “I’ll be doing some fundraising soon to ensure I can pay contributors as we move forward in search of various forms of [longer-term] funding.”
