HarperCollins to publish memoir by Rob and Doug Ford

FordNationHarperCollins this fall will publish a memoir co-written by late former Toronto mayor Rob Ford and his brother‚ former Toronto city councillor and 2014 mayoral candidate Doug Ford. Ford Nation: Two Brothers, One Vision – The True Story of the People’s Mayor will recount the Ford family’s story from the brothers’ point of view‚ from their parents’ marriage and founding of a successful labelling business to the political careers of Rob, Doug, and their father, former Ontario MLA Doug Ford Sr. According to the press release, the book will focus not on the drug scandal that surrounded the one-term mayor during his time in office‚ but on his role as “faithful public servant and devoted husband, father and brother who put the people of his city above all else.”

Ford Nation is the latest in a string of titles in recent years focused on Rob Ford, including Crazy Town: The Rob Ford Story (Viking Canada) by former Toronto Star reporter Robyn Doolittle‚ Mayor Rob Ford: Uncontrollable: How I Tried to Help the World’s Most Notorious Mayor (Skyhorse Publishing) by Rob Ford’s 2010 campaign adviser Mark Towhey and journalist Johanna Schneller‚ and The Only Average Guy: Inside the Uncommon World of Rob Ford (Random House Canada) by former city councillor John Filion.

“I can’t wait to introduce the brother I knew and loved to the world,” Doug Ford said in the release. “Rob was so much more than just a headline. A great father and coach‚ and a tireless leader who, until his dying day, never stopped fighting for the little guy.”

Jim Gifford‚ HarperCollins’s editorial director of non-fiction, said Rob Ford had already begun working on the book when he received his cancer diagnosis – he died on March 22 – but insisted the team “finish what [they] started.” Gifford said, “it became apparent just how many lives Rob Ford had touched. … We are looking forward to bringing this remarkable story to the legions of Ford supporters.”

HarperCollins will release Ford Nation on Nov. 22.
