Job description: There is an immediate opening for a Developmental Editor in the ESL department at Oxford University Press.
The developmental editor is responsible for manuscripts between the time the contract is signed and the first drafts arrive for review until the manuscript is ready for hand over to production. The main responsibilities in this job are author management, development of projects according to the publication plan, and the scheduling and coordination of projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Pre-submission liaison with the author to secure the timely arrival of the first draft manuscript.
• Initial review of the manuscript to assess compliance with the publication plan and proposal review feedback.
• Peer and market review of manuscripts.
• Working with authors to ensure all necessary content and market revisions are successfully achieved, based on the peer and market review.
• Preparing manuscripts for handover to production, including planning and coordinating any necessary photo research, creating art logs, and gathering permissions information for later clearance.
• Creation of NBAs.
• Setting and running launch meetings.
The developmental editor works as a team with the Associate Director and the Acquisitions Editor responsible for the projects. Three to five years of experience as a developmental editor and good computer and organizational skills are essential. ESL experience would be an asset.

Job description: The Canadian Tax Foundation, an independent non-profit tax research organization, provides both the taxpaying public and the governments of Canada with expert, impartial research into current problems of taxation and finance. The Foundation's extensive publications program includes the Canadian Tax Journal, treatises, monographs, textbooks, conference proceedings, and newsletters.
The Foundation's Toronto office has an opening in its editorial department for a part-time editorial assistant, reporting to the managing editor. The Foundation offers a congenial environment and flexible working hours.
The editorial assistant will be responsible for a variety of editorial tasks, including
• developing and maintaining publication schedules;
• managing and recording the movement of various stages of proof and files to and from the Foundation;
• communicating with authors, typesetters, freelance editors, and printers as necessary;
• working with other departments at the Foundation to coordinate delivery of electronic and print publications as required; and
• assisting the managing editor as required.
Experience in proofreading legal or scholarly material is an asset. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
The successful candidate will have two to five years' experience in legal or scholarly publishing. He or she should be knowledgeable about all aspects of print and electronic book and journal production, from manuscript to finished book; possess excellent organizational and communication (written and oral) skills; be able to multi-task and move between simultaneous projects; and work with minimal supervision after completion of a training period.

Production Coordinator

Job description: The University of Toronto Press as an immediate opening for a Production Coordinator in its Production & Design Dept., Higher Education Publishing.
Note: * Depending on the candidate selected the job will be located either at University of Toronto Press (Toronto) or at the Higher Education office in Guelph.
The position is reporting to the VP, Higher Education division, the candidate will be responsible for handling all aspects of the production of all new books and reprints. This includes working with signing editors and authors, copyeditors, proofreaders, designers and type and printing suppliers, including when appropriate e-book distributors and course pack suppliers. The job will include the preparation of costs for DTPs, MICEs and FQCs; circulating proofs; preparing purchase orders for design, typesetting, and printing; performing quality control checks of finished products; and providing general clerical support to the department. The candidate will preside over regular Production meetings and attend press approvals when necessary. These activities require constant liaison with editorial, marketing, design, printing, and order fulfilment staff, and must be performed while balancing considerations of reasonable cost and timely scheduling. The position also requires a detailed knowledge of production and design procedures, technical methods and procedures, extremely close attention to detail, and the ability to juggle many projects at once under conflicting deadline pressures.
The ideal candidate will have high school graduation, although university highly recommended. Completion of book production courses recommended. Experience in book production highly recommended. Thorough knowledge of printing technology and materials especially in computer technology as it relates to all phases of book manufacturing. Demonstrated ability to work with staff. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software in a PC/Mac environment and aptitude for working with numbers are assets. Capacity for close attention to detail. Ability to organize and follow through on complex projects. Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, On-Line Marketing will contribute to, direct and strategically manage Penguin’s consumer facing, bookseller, e-commerce and vendor related online activity to ensure content for the Penguin site is up-to-date, relevant and best promotes current as well as backlist titles for Canadian, international, and agency titles. Major Responsibilities:
• Provide overall management and strategic direction for a robust, dynamic, and effective website, including the development and delivery of consumer friendly navigation, design, features, and channel specific content for consumers, booksellers and media, working closely with the Manager, Web Applications & Systems, Web Architect, and other technical staff;
• Act as the key business liaison for Penguin Canada on global e-commerce and digital publishing initiatives;

Qualifications
• A minimum of five year’s experience in online and direct to consumer marketing, preferably in the publishing industry
• A degree or diploma in marketing or online marketing
• Experience with B2C ecommerce sites
• Creative and entrepreneurial
• Technical awareness of online systems and design/production methods
• Strong copywriting skills
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Sound knowledge of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and the internet
• Familiarity with HMTL,Flash, and other web applications would be an asset
• Ability to analyze and disseminate data and market trends for presentation to various user groups
