“With February soon to burst upon us, there is one outstanding thought it brings to mind – St. Valentine’s Day,” wrote display editor Frank C. Boulter in Quill & Quire‘s January 1938 issue. For Mr. Boulter’s money, a bit of showmanship was everything needed “to turn desire to purchase into actual sales.” The small investment of a Valentine-shaped window card, a cylindrical-shaped base, and a square- or rectangular-shaped box were the only things needed for a simple but effective holiday window display – “probably your best advertisement.”
