Slideshow: Theytus Books celebrates 30 years

Theytus Books, one of Canada’s oldest aboriginal publishers, celebrated its 30th anniversary last Thursday. The full-day festivities comprised workshops about creativity and the land, including a poetry-chapbook-writing session and reading hosted by Jeanette Armstrong, at the En’owkin Centre, the publisher’s home on B.C.’s Penticton Indian Reserve.

The day ended with a birthday gala, which brought together authors, former staffers (including Theytus founder Randy Fred), and the local community to honour Theytus’s contribution to Canadian literature, its support of First Nations authors and commitment to aboriginal storytelling in the 21st century.

Click through the slideshow for highlights from the party and read up on Theytus Books’ forthcoming enhanced e-book, The People of the Salmon – the publisher’s most ambitious project yet.
