Project Bookmark celebrates four new Ontario literary landmarks

Project Bookmark Canada, a charitable organization that erects ceramic plaques bearing text from stories or poems set in specific locations in Ontario, is unveiling four new Bookmarks this fall.

The Bookmark plaque for “Song for the Field Behind Mississauga Valley Public School,” from Jeff Latosik’s Trillium Award–winning poetry collection Tiny, Frantic, Stronger (Insomniac Press), will be unveiled at the Mississauga school, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. Sylvia Maultash Warsh’s The Queen of Unforgetting (Cormorant Books) will receive a Bookmark in Little Lake Park, Midland, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. “Giants,” from John Terpstra’s poetry collection Two or Three Guitars (Gaspereau Press), will be unveiled in Sam Lawrence Park, Hamilton, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m., and Sheree-Lee Olson’s Sailor Girl (The Porcupine’s Quill) will be unveiled at the Welland Canal, Lock 8, Port Colborne, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend the ceremonies, Open Book: Ontario will be hosting project-related interviews, videos, and contests.

The new literary sites join six other plaques carrying excerpts of work by Anne Michaels, Elizabeth Hay, Ken Babstock, Bronwen Wallace, Terry Griggs, and Michael Ondaatje.
