Canadian literary event round-up: April 8-14

Here are just a few literary events happening across the country in the next week:

  • Day two of the gritLIT literary festival kicks off with readings by Trevor Cole, Kathleen and Michael Winter at the Art Gallery of Hamilton (April 8, 7:30 p.m., $8)
  • Books and breakfast with Gerry Fostaty, Suzanne Desrochers, Holly Luhning, Ian Hamilton, and Joel Yanofsky at Le Centre Sheraton, Montreal (April 10, 10 a.m., $32)
  • Spoken-word performance and launch of Andy Lamey’s book Frontier Justice: The Global Refugee Crisis and What To Do About It at University of King’s College, Halifax (April 12, 7:30 p.m., free)
  • ImagiNation 2011: Writers’ Festival celebrates 13 Canadian authors and poets, with guest appearance by Serbian author Vladan Matijevic, Quebec City (April 13-17, see website for times and prices)
  • Man Booker winner Howard Jacobson talks graphic novels at UBC’s Frederic Wood Theatre, Vancouver (April 13, 7:30 p.m., $24.75)
  • Hal Niedzviecki launches Look Down, This Is Where It Must Have Happened and Ken Sparling launches Intention, Implication, Wind at Supermarket, Toronto (April 14, 7:30 p.m., free)

UPDATE: Vladan Matijevic’s ImagiNAtion appearance has been cancelled, but for a complete list of other authors, including Roch Carrier and Alexander MacLeod, visit the festival website.

    Hi Sue, I work for the Morrin Centre in Quebec City (We are organizing ImagiNation 2011: Writers’ Festival) I just saw the link to this page, which is great by the way, but unfortunately, our event with Serbian author, Vladan Matijevic has been canceled. If possible, could you please replace his name with another author’s name? Roch Carrier, is our honorary president, but we also have other many other celebrated authors, such as; Linda Leith, Sheree Fitch, Andrew Potter, Alexander MacLeod, etc… Thank-you very much.
