Tony Burgess’s bloody new book trailer

Book trailers are becoming more pervasive and sophisticated all the time; they’re also becoming more effective as tools for selling books. (HarperCollins’s creepy trailer for Emma Donoghue’s Room was a hit on the Internet even before the actual book was available in stores.) It was probably only a matter of time before publishers cottoned on to the notion of having actual movie directors shoot their trailers. (If Brian de Palma can direct a Bruce Springsteen video, why not?)

This is what ChiZine Publications has done with their trailer for Tony Burgess’s new novel, People Live Still in Cashtown Corners. The trailer was directed by acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo, Highway 61). This is not the first time McDonald has collaborated on a Burgess-inspired project: he also directed the 2009 adaptation of Burgess’s novel Pontypool Changes Everything.

For those who are so disposed, McDonald’s trailer is embedded below. Be warned: like all of Burgess’s stuff, it’s a bit on the bizarre side.
