Quill & Quire announces new editor

Dear Readers,

Quill & Quire would like to announce that Stuart Woods, who has been a staff member of Q&Q for two years, has recently transitioned into the role of editor.

stuart

Stuart was hired as editorial intern in the Fall of 2007 and was promoted to staff writer in August 2008. A graduate of the University of King’s College (Halifax, NS), with a B.A. in Contemporary Studies and History, Woods has predominantly worked as a print journalist; however, he began his career in book publishing, working as an editor at Price-Patterson Ltd., a publishing house based in Montréal. (Woods is bilingual, and his time in Québec provided him with an opportunity to hone his French as well as his journalistic skills.)

Woods has been well-regarded by Q&Q staff from the beginning, and is known for his intelligence and sincerity. Alison Jones, publisher, has been continually impressed by Woods’ contributions: “Stuart will make a wonderful editor. He has shown with his reporting and reviewing a great understanding of both the art and commerce shaping the world of Canadian books.”

Of his new position, Woods says, “I would like to continue to build on Quill & Quire‘s reputation for in-depth industry analysis, breaking news coverage, and must-read reviews of upcoming books, while at the same time improving the way the magazine –  in print and online – acts as a resource for the Canadian book publishing community as a whole. I am excited by the challenge presented by this opportunity, while at the same time saddened by the circumstances through which it has come about.”

As most of you know, Derek Weiler, who had been Q&Q‘s editor since 2004, died suddenly in April. While Derek will always be sorely missed by all who knew him, we have every confidence in Stuart, and we would like you to join us in welcoming him to the post. If you have not already had the pleasure of Stuart’s acquaintance, please be sure to introduce yourself at upcoming events.

Sincerely,
The Staff of Q&Q
