Martel’s next move

Two years after conquering the Man Booker Prize and the Canadian retail market, Life of Pi author Yann Martel is set to unveil a follow-up. Not fiction, mind you — Martel has now tried his hand at music. He and composer Omar Daniel have collaborated on a five-part piece called You Are Where You Are, written for piano, string quartet, and bass. The CBC website reports that the piece is based on text written by Martel and “includes snippets of cellphone conversations that are taken from moments in an average day.” Its five parts include “At the Yoga Class,” “At the Office,” “At the Supermarket,” “At the Travel Agent,” and “At the Church.” No word, apparently, on where and when it might be performed.
