Five titles are in the running to become the First Nation Communities Read selection for 2016–2017.

The winner, who will be announced in Toronto on June 23 as part of the National Aboriginal Day Celebrations, will receive the $5,000 Periodical Marketers of Canada Aboriginal Literature Award.

The shortlisted titles, as selected by a six-member jury from First Nation public libraries in Ontario, are:

• Sweetest Kulu, Celina Kalluk (Inhabit Media)
• Sometimes I Feel Like a Fox, Danielle Daniel (Groundwood Books)
• Spirit Bear, Jennifer Harrington; Michael Arnott, illus. (Eco Books 4 Kids)
• The Thundermaker, Allan Syliboy (Nimbus Publishing)
• The Apple Tree, Sandy Tharpe-Thee (Roadrunner Press)
