The Writers’ Trust of Canada has named Vancouver author Alex Leslie winner of this year’s $4,000 Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBT Emerging Writers.

Leslie was chosen by a jury comprising fellow writers Nancy Jo Cullen, Brett Josef Grubisic, and Anand Mahadevan. Winnipeg author Casey Plett and Toronto author Vivek Shraya were selected to receive honours of distinction, a $250 prize each.

Leslie’s bibliography includes short-story collection People Who Disappear (Freehand Books), nominated for the 2013 Lambda Literary Award for Debut Fiction and a 2013 ReLit Award, and the poetry collection The things I heard about you (Nightwood Editions), which was shortlisted for the 2014 Robert Kroestch Award for Innovative Poetry.

Leslie, Plett, and Shraya will be recognized at an event at Toronto’s Gardiner Museum on June 26.
