The Word On The Street (Toronto)
The Toronto Book and Magazine Fair, operating under the name The Word On The Street Toronto, is Canada’s largest annual book and magazine festival. Featuring a lively exhibitor marketplace, top-notch author readings and quality family programming, the festival celebrates Canadian reading and writing, and advocates literacy.
The Board of Directors of the Word on the Street Toronto is looking for a dynamic, energetic and visionary Festival Director to lead the organization. This is a full-time permanent position. The Festival Director is responsible for the successful execution of the annual operations of the Toronto Book and Magazine Fair. The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: strategic and operational planning and management; financial management; revenue generation; fundraising; festival programming; marketing; human resources; external relations; and event logistics.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a senior management role, with demonstrated success in producing large-scale, high-profile special events, from concept to completion; financial management experience, including budgets of $500,000 plus; proven success in generating revenue in the not-for-profit sector through grant writing, fundraising and sponsorship development; a festival or not-for-profit background; a post-secondary degree in an appropriate field (preferably Communications or Public Relations); and a demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian writing and publishing industry. The successful candidate will have exceptional organizational and people-management skills and a demonstrated ability in leading a team of employees.
Supported by a volunteer Board of Directors and a professional staff, the Festival Director will build on the festival’s history of success, realizing the objectives of our strategic plan, while developing new and expanded partnerships.
