Canadian Scholars’ Press Inc./Women’s Press/CSPI Coursepacks is looking for a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and experienced individual with strong communication and organizational skills to join our growing company. Working from our offices in downtown Toronto, the successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring new titles for our higher-education publishing program and marketing books and custom coursebooks. The focus of this position is on the college market.

Canadian Scholars’ Press is one of Canada’s largest independent publishers of books, custom coursebooks and coursepacks for the higher education market. Since 1986, our success has been based on publishing indispensable books and coursepacks that have great pedagogical value. We provide a unique voice for a wide range of academic, political, and feminist perspectives in the humanities and social sciences, with particular focus on the areas of health, sociology, social work, and gender and sexuality studies.

Responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking ongoing market research in order to identify potential authors and potential adopters of our books.
• Coordinating peer review and communicating feedback to authors/editors.
• Contributing creative input on text designs, cover designs, jacket copy, and web content.
• Ensuring that innovative, competitive, and high quality books are delivered on schedule and on budget.
• Developing and implementing a strategic plan for each title, from acquisition through to marketing.
• Promoting awareness of the company’s books in the academic community through contact with faculty members and staff at post-secondary institutions in the assigned territory using e-mail, CRM, phone campaigns, and visits on campus.

Qualifications: • An undergraduate degree that includes work in one or more of our areas of focus.
• An eye for detail, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
• Computer proficiency in typical office programs and familiarity with ACT! or similar CRM programs would be beneficial.
• A capacity to work independently.
• Experience in the Canadian book publishing industry and knowledge of the post-secondary educational market in Canada would be an asset.

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience and includes a highly competitive benefits program. This position reports to the Vice-President, Book Publishing.
