Summer literary-event season kicks off this month with the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts’ inaugural Spoken Word Festival, running June 4–5 in Sechelt, B.C. The event features local students alongside their spoken-word mentors and artists.

The Festival at Ochre Pit Cove, Newfoundland’s annual celebration of music, books, and art runs June 19–20. This year’s lineup includes Elisabeth de Mariaffi, Mark McCrowe, Bernie Stapleton, Leslie Vryenhoek, and Russell Wangersky.

On June 20 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Read by the Sea will host Wordplay, an event for “children of all ages.” Kids’ author Sheree Fitch will act as M.C., and author Linda Little will read from her first children’s book, Work and More Work.

Presented by the Book and Periodical Council and Humber College, in association with Toronto’s International Festival of Authors, Book Summit 2015 takes place in Toronto on June 22 at Harbourfront Centre. The book-marketing event features speakers from the publishing industry, including former Wikipedia director Sue Gardner, Penguin Random House Canada product director Meghan MacDonald, BookThug publisher Jay MillAr, and others.
