P.E.I. libraries will no longer charge fines for overdue children’s books

P.E.I.’s 26 provincial libraries will cease charging overdue book fines for children’s materials on June 1. Lost books will still be subject to replacement costs.

The timing is meant to encourage participation in the library’s summer-reading programs, which last year attracted more than 6,700 children.

P.E.I. residents paid $8,000 in overdue book fees for children’s materials in 2016.
