The Banff Centre, the Alberta-based multidisciplinary arts organization, has announced an immediate layoff of 33 permanent full-time positions – about 8 per cent of its workforce – in a restructuring led by CEO Janet Price, CBC reports.

Price tells CBC that the plan aims to “streamline” services and focus on updating existing facilities. Support staff and managers are among those affected by the cuts.

The news follows the appointment of a new board of governors chair, David Weyant, earlier in April, and the sudden departure of former president and CEO Jeff Melanson in June 2014.
