Jillian and Mariko Tamaki, Emily Carroll win 2015 Eisner Awards

QQ - Jillian Tamaki 001Toronto illustrator Jillian Tamaki and cousin, writer Mariko Tamaki, have won this year’s Eisner Award for best new graphic novel for their Michael L. Printz and Caldecott Honor–winning 2014 YA title, This One Summer. The coming-of-age story follows a pair of pre-teen friends on a beachside vacation filled with crushes and family drama that distinguish it from previous years as a summer of growing up.

Ontario-based cartoonist Emily Carroll also received an Eisner for best short story for “When Darkness Presses,” a piece of psychological horror self-published on the author’s website.

The winners were presented with their prizes on July 10 at the 27th annual Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, held at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
