Judy Schultz wins Robert Kroetsch Book Prize

The City of Edmonton has named Judy Schultz’s Freddy’s War (Brindle & Glass) winner of the 2012 Robert Kroetsch City of Edmonton Book Prize.

Schultz was presented the $10,000 prize at the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts Awards gala on Monday evening.

The retired Edmonton Journal food writer has authored 11 books, though Freddy’s War, about an underage soldier taken prisoner in Hong Kong during the Second World War, is her fiction debut.

Wendy McGrath’s Santa Rosa (NeWest Press) and Dawn Dumont’s Nobody Cries at Bingo (Thistledown Press) were also shortlisted for the award.
