Marking Vancouver’s literary landmarks

LiteraryLandmarkVancouver’s literary history is being honoured on the streets.

Literary Landmarks – a partnership between the Vancouver Public Library, B.C. BookWorld, the VPL Foundation, and Dr. Yosef Wosk – recognizes physical locations with connections to the city’s authors and books. Each of the inaugural 26 sites features an informational plaque mounted on a lamppost, with additional content available via an interactive online map.

The landmarks include a bandstand that inspired Malcolm Lowry’s poem “Lament in the Pacific Northwest,” and North America’s first Insite supervised injection site, established by author Bud Osborn. Other authors represented include George Bowering, Wayson Choy, Douglas Coupland, Joy Kogawa, Evelyn Lau, and Jane Rule.
