My favourite non-fiction book this year was Contested Land, Contested Memory: Israel’s Jews and Arabs and the Ghosts of Catastrophe, by Jo Roberts. It’s a beautifully written, insightful and compassionate look at the situation in Israel/Palestine – a very refreshing change from the kind of polarized polemic on the topic that’s so much more common.
