Wang Ping joins Griffin Prize jury

Chinese-born novelist, academic, and poet Wang Ping has been tapped as a judge for the 2013 Griffin Poetry Prize, replacing Breyten Breytenbach on the three-person jury.

According to a press release, Breytenbach, who was named to the jury in November, is unable to participate due to “unforeseen circumstances.” The other members of the jury are Canadian poet (and past Griffin finalist) Suzanne Buffam and Mark Doty, a poet and memoirist based in New York.

Ping was born in Shanghai and came to the U.S. in the 1980s, eventually earning a Ph.D. in comparative literature from New York University. She is the author of a novel, a pair of short story collections, and poetry.
