The Walrus Foundation is celebrating Canada Day in a very literary way “ by launching the Walrus Ebooks imprint.

The new ebook line kicks off with three stories: Heather O’Neill’s “And They Danced by the Light of the Moon,” Joseph Boyden’s “Kikwaakew,” and Margaret Atwood’s “I Dream of Zenia with the Bright Red Teeth,” which also launched the magazine’s physical book imprint, The Walrus Books, in April. The stories revisit memorable characters from a previous work by each author: O’Neill’s Lullabies for Little Criminals, Boyden’s Three-Day Road, and Atwood’s The Robber Bride.

The three titles were originally published in The Walrus magazine’s July/August 2012 issue and will be available digitally as singles, or all together in The Walrus Summer Reader, available only for the July long weekend.

Shelley Ambrose, The Walrus co-publisher and executive director of The Walrus Foundation, states in a press release:

Making content from The Walrus available in as many forms and on as many platforms as possible, including ebooks, allows us to continue fulfilling our mandate: to support Canadian writers, artists, readers, and debate ¦ however readers might want to consume it.

Walrus Ebooks will offer a series of short stories and anthologies from the best of The Walrus. From now until the end of the year, two fiction titles will be published each month from writers like Steven Heighton and Pasha Malla.
