Book links roundup: Catch Oscar’s Flying Books, Judy Blume’s Hollywood crush, and more

The “ten  magical books” list is certainly interesting for the mental gymnastics used to rationalize their idea that these books (involving magic, telepathy, clairvoyance, telekinesis, communicating with the dead, the supernatural, steampunk, sorcerers, spirits, and Lucifer) aren’t “fantasy” simply because they’re not epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings. But then, there’s obviously some prejudice at work, since they “hope [J.K. Rowling's novel for adults] won’t be another straight-up fantasy novel”. Perhaps they feel the need to re-brand their favourite fantasy writing as “literary fiction” or “magic realism” so that their friends won’t sneer at it as much as they sneer at literature that people admit is fantasy?
