Hey hey, my my: Neil Young announces memoir

Neil Young, one of Canada’s most famous musical exports, is writing a memoir, to be published in fall 2012 by Blue Rider Press, an imprint of Penguin Group USA.

The New York Times reports that Penguin president and publisher David Rosenthal acquired the memoir, tentatively titled Waging Heavy Peace, after several years of discussion with Young. Rosenthal also acquired and published Bob Dylan’s 2004 memoir, Chronicles, Vol. 1.

From the NYT:

[Young]’s been very busy playing and touring and making records, and the guy has 100 things going on all the time, Mr. Rosenthal said. He felt that this was a really propitious moment to try and put some stuff down on paper. … Mr. Young has already finished writing a good deal of material, Mr. Rosenthal said. The intention is to cover pretty much everything ” growing up, music, life, he added. I am astounded at his memory for detail.

Rock memoirs are big business these days with Keith Richards’ Life and Steven Tyler’s Does The Noise In My Head Bother You? making frequent appearances on bestseller lists. Pete Townsend, Greg Allman, and members of KISS are also expected to release tell-alls next year.
