A haven for the rejected
Every writer has a story or poem they’ve tried in vain to find a home for. Rejection letters proffer apologetic phrases like “excellent writing, but…” or “just not the right fit for us” or “Don’t send us funny work, we’re a Canadian literary journal, we have a sour, unreadable reputation to uphold!” Now there’s an online literary journal, The Incongruous Quarterly, ready to treasure all those unpublishable gems. But they don’t want your bad writing, they want the good stuff that just doesn’t fit elsewhere.
From the call for submissions:
Unpublishable writing can be too long or too short. It can be too weird or too conventional. It can defy genres or description. It may have been rejected by other magazines, websites or publishers. It generally receives low grades and strange looks. It may be confusing. It may be something we haven’t thought of yet. It’s never just one thing, and it’s usually pretty hard to describe. But it’s always worth reading.
The editors are seeking submissions for their first issue, which will go live in July, and will be guest edited by Pasha Malla and Daniel Scott Tysdal.
