Anne Collins promoted at Random House; Diane Martin taking reduced role

Mere days after Random House of Canada announced the imminent departure of Doubleday Canada publisher Maya Mavjee, more top-level changes have been unveiled. The big news is that Anne Collins, vice-president and publisher of the Random House Canada imprint, has taken on responsibility for the Knopf Canada imprint as well. Her new title (which is quite the mouthful) is publisher of Knopf Random Canada Publishing Group and vice-president of Random House of Canada. According to a press release issued by Random House executive vice-president Louise Dennys, Collins will now be in charge of supervising the editorial workflow of both the Random House Canada and Knopf Canada imprints. The change will be effective as of Jan. 1, 2010.

Meanwhile, current Knopf Canada publisher Diane Martin will be taking on a reduced role as Knopf Canada’s publisher at large, which will see her working from home much of the time. According to Dennys, Martin will “remain fully involved with Knopf Canada’s list, authors, and acquisitions, but has chosen to step away from the management of the imprint while giving herself the opportunity to achieve a positive return to good health. She will concentrate on acquisitions and editing, will remain very much in touch from her home office, and be fully involved as ever with the authors, agents, and fellow publishers abroad with whom we do business.”
