Devil’s night at IFOA includes a little something for everyone

You could take the whole family to IFOA tonight and everyone would be happy:

1.The shoe-gazing indie rock teenager will want to check out Stuart Berman’s This Book Is Broken event, where the author talks to Broken Social Scene members along with journalist Ben Rayner.

2. Your mom. if she’s cool enough, would probably want to hear Canadian music icon Anne Murray discuss her 40-year career with her All of Me collaborator, Michael Posner. Local name-dropping novelist Shinan Govani hosts.

3. The aspiring-novelist daughter wants to know how writers actually get to the final chapter. NOW’s Susan G. Cole moderates On Getting It Done, featuring Anne DeGrace, Elina Hirvonen, Tessa McWatt, and Lisa Moore.

4. The nature-loving Dad? Graeme Gibson, of course. He’s joined by Tim Cook, and poets Dani Couture and Lorna Crozier.

Inside: In the January/February issue of Q&Q, now on newsstands, we look back on the decade that was, highlighting the people, books, and events that defined the 2000s. Also in the issue, we look ahead at the season’s most anticipated books in our Spring Preview; visit with veteran publisher Kim McArthur as she attempts to reinvent McArthur & Company; and examine the secret nine-to-five lives of Canadian authors. All that, plus reviews of new books by Todd Babiak, Ruth Ohi, Ann Vanderhoof, Richard Scrimger, and more.
