Some recent book-world doings, captured photographically:

Jon Paul Fiorentino (above, signing book in natty black hat) launched his illustrated novel Stripmalling (ECW Press) at a This is Not a Reading Series event at Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel on March 2. The book was illustrated by Evan Munday (natty blue shirt and tie). (This photo and below courtesy of ECW Press.)

In addition to illustrating the book, showing up for the launch-night hosannas, and generally dressing sharp, Munday created a Stripmalling-themed mural in the window of Toronto’s Pages Books and Magazines.

miller and rotenberg

As part of the Lit City program and Toronto’s 175th anniversary, author Robert Rotenberg (above, with glasses and slightly pained expression) read from his novel Old City Hall (Simon & Schuster) at the actual Toronto city hall, where he was greeted by Mayor David Miller (above, with great hair). berman artwork

Tundra Books launched a new picture book, Bradley McGogg, the Very Fine Frog, by Tim Beiser and illustrated by Rachel Berman, at Toronto’s Ingram Gallery, where Berman’s artwork for the book was on display. The green-shirted gallery-goer above  was overheard commenting at length on Berman’s use of “negative space” before demanding a cookie and falling asleep in a chair.
