Do we get to pay with non-money?

Give the Atlantic Book Awards credit for some wry and creative fundraising. Organizers are trying to raise money for the Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Excellence in illustration, so they’re offering tickets to a “non-event.” According to an e-mail that’s making the rounds:

The event will NOT take place on April 25th and it will not be in the lovely town of Lunenburg (Lillian’s hometown), in a restaurant overlooking the historic harbour. Some of the guest speakers will NOT be past recipients of the Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award…. Tickets are $20.00 and brunch will NOT be served promptly at 11 a.m. and NO program will be following at noon. You will be saving yourself gas, parking, babysitting, buying a new outfit, having your hair done, the agony of making small talk, as well as all of the other pains of having to leave your house on a Sunday morning in April.

Those interested in “tickets” can contact Terrilee Bulger.
