On the side of the angel
As Quillblog winds down another year, we’d like to offer a shout-out to one of our most frequent commenters, who can always be counted on to keep things lively. Some greatest hits from the past year are below; the first word of each links back to the post in question.
- Just more careless table talk from Canada’s greatest living postal worker.
- Paper squares and triangles dropped on a stormy sea.
- Poets misbehaving. There’s hope for the Canadian poetry scene yet. Squabbling like jackals over the remains of a
robin’s leg. - Pass me the nyquil.
- The politburo speaks out.
- Send in the lit police — the blasphemers have mounted the pulpit without the proper credentials. Where the hell’s Yann Martel at a time like this? Another book list Yann c/o the Calgary Herald.
- If she’s just a half-sister should we just half-believe her?
- Big ideas have a hazardous life in America it’s true. In Europe they seal them in amber and worship them as they have done continuously with saint’s toenails and Bardot’s slippers. In Europe they call this civilization. In America they call it Disneyland.
- Ken my son you’re looking as beautiful as the day I first saw you. And the new novel is as riotous and deep as your heart and the earth that gave you.
- We show no respect for the dead. We root in their graves, extolling their virtues and leave a plastic lily behind as a sign of our gratitude. Cary I’m a big fan of yours but ……
- Another drop in the bottomless bucket of misunderstanding.
- Reads like Waiting for Godot.
- Whoee. The sump house is working. Now I know who’s writing their catalogue copy.
- Canadian author polishes apple. Tries technique on prose.
- Another day another lecture from one of the world’s most innovative minds.
- Wow that could be quite a bonfire considering the extent of the master’s oeuvre. Might even been visible from space. Become a beacon for vagrant UFOs.
- Tear the junk yard down and erect another junk yard on the site in true Toronto fashion.
