Industry news,

Taylor makes Times notable list

The New York Times released its “100 notable books of 2008″ list this week, based on positive reviews in the section over the past year, and let’s just say Canadian authors didn’t have a great showing. Charles Taylor’s A Secular Age makes the non-fiction list, and Atmospheric Disturbances, the debut of Canadian-raised Rivka Galchen, is on the fiction list. Beyond that, there’s the Canadian-themed Champlain’s Dream, by American author David Hackett Fischer, and that’s about it.

Before anyone jumps in to remind us, though, there was a much stronger Canadian presence, percentage-wise, on another Times year-end list this month, this one spotlighting the 10 best illustrated children’s books.
