Chris Tougas (right) won the inaugural Bolen Books Children’s Book Prize on Oct. 15 for his book Mechanimals (Orca Book Publishers), which he wrote and illustrated. Meanwhile, Arleen Paré (left) won the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize for Paper Trail (NeWest Press), a mix of fiction and poetry.

The Fictionistas road show, featuring female novelists from various presses, is in full force again this fall. Above, Vancouver MC Trevor Battye looks on as Alix Hawley, author of Old Familiar (Thistledown Press), takes questions from the audience. The Vancouver event took place on Oct. 16.
