Canada Council passes muster
The Canada Council for the Arts has passed a “special examination” by the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, which has concluded that the granting agency’s operations have “no significant deficiencies.” The full report (which makes little specific reference to the Council’s Writing and Publishing section) can be downloaded here.
The Council has been asked to adopt “an integrated risk management framework” to anticipate challenges that might affect its own operations. And not surprisingly, most of the audit’s other recommendations centre on housekeeping and/or paperwork issues. An example: “Among the 82 peers who participated in the assessment of the grant files that we examined, four had served on more than one committee during the stipulated period. No written authorization from the Director of the Arts Division was on file in those four cases.”
