Kids’ BOOKED events cancelled

Booked logoOn the eve of the BOOKED! consumer show, much of Friday’s children’s programming has been cancelled. Originally, seven children’s events were scheduled to take place on Friday, most of them at Fort York. That number has fallen to two.

Still on are two 10 a.m. readings, one featuring Martha Brooks, Deborah Ellis, and Susan Juby and the other featuring author team Anna Morgan and Rachael Turkienicz as well as Frieda Wishinsky. Among the authors slated to appear at the now-cancelled events were Barbara Haworth-Attard, Carol Matas, Kit Pearson, Brian Doyle, Sean Cullen, Kevin Sylvester, and several others.

The children’s programming was targeted to visiting classes of schoolchildren. BOOKED spokesperson Michaela Cornell says, “One of the school groups pulled out, and they were pretty much filling the seats at Fort York.”

Cornell notes that several of the affected authors were already appearing at other BOOKED events this weekend. Sylvester and Doyle are among the authors scheduled for a round of free readings at the CBC Atrium on Saturday morning, while at the same time Cullen will appear at Harbourfront’s Enwave Theatre.
