The Amazing Silverman needs your help!

Peter SilvermanJournalist and CityNews ombudsman Peter Silverman recently posted a comment on this Quillblog post from last year that we thought we should highlight:

I am a journalist in the process of doing a television story on the banning of Three Wishes by the Toronto School Board. I have read this book and would like to receive comments from children between the fourth and sixth grades concerning their opinions. With parental consent, I would like to interview these children for CITYTV as I am doing a documentary on this issue. I can be reached at peters@citytv.com
Thanks. Peter Silverman, OMBUDSMAN, CITYNEWS

(For those who don’t know, Silverman is a kind of consumer advocate who made headlines earlier this year when he was attacked by a shady Toronto optician who’d allegedly been threatening his customers and selling cheap knockoffs of name-brand frames. As you can see from the video here and here, Silverman more than holds his own.)

This really miffed me off. Fortunately I was in me work uniform when I struck out on a on a mission to locate a poppy pin for my coworkers three days before our day of Remembrance. I walked 6 blocks stopping in at every convenience store and even our own city and government places of business. I stopped at a Canada Post, Canadian a Imperial Back of Commerce, Toronto Public Library and 7 other stores and could not for lack of trying meet anyone that either had a box of poppies or even wearing one. All the places I stopped I asked “do you have a box of poppies” and this was their response at EVERY place “what is a poppy”. I had to point at the poppy that I was wearing and it still took a minute for them to clue in. In the past 10 days I have only seen 1 man selling poppies and he is blinder then a bat and lives in lower them poverty and still got out to show his respect and he stood there by himself.

I am getting sick and tired of this can you help?

    Hi Peter.

I need your help! I bought a complete set of couches form Arrow Furniture in Scarborough back in January 09′. When they delviered the goods, the delivery people came in my house with there dirty shoes and throw the couches covered in snow on my my carpeted floor, it was a real mess.
To top it all they left the couches unwraped and they told me that it was my job to get rid of the garbage and to make sure they were in good conditions.
When i unwraped them i knowthis scratches on the back of the single chair and all the cover from the big couch was torn off. I calle Arrow Furniture right away and they told me i had to call head office. I tried calling several times and never got an answer. After a month and a half had gone by they sent a someone by the title “technitian” witch came with couple of sharpies color markers to color over the sratches. I called right away and told them i was not happy that i wanted a replacement. they told me that they would have to send another “Technitian” to look and try to fix the problem. after a month an half later and over 20 calls to Arrow furniture head office they finally showed up at my house with a what it looked like a spray can and sprayd over the damaged parts witch made it looked wors than it was initially. Now im still trying to get a new couch since i paid almost $4000.00 for this couches and not geting any customer service at all. To top it all off they told me they cannot give me any sort of refund back or any sort of credy because ones again is not in there policy. So as you can see i been getting the run around and now im not getting anywere with this issue with this people. Please help.

Thank you so much for your time.

    With respect
    Hector Lara..
