Itani’s big day
Any time an author completes a manuscript, they have ample reason to celebrate. But yesterday, when Deafening author Frances Itani completed her newest work, Remembering the Bones, she should have poured herself two glasses of champagne, not one.
According to an article in today’s Ottawa Citizen, Itani was preparing to send her completed manuscript off to her publisher when she discovered, to her great surprise, that she’d been named to the Order of Canada. “To have both things happen on the same day is pretty nice,” Itani told the Citizen reporter.
Incidentally, Itani was not the only author named to the Order yesterday: novelist Barbara Gowdy and mystery writer Howard Engel were also among the new appointees. You can read further details of their citations in today’s Toronto Star.
