The bookless book fair

Like something out of a publisher’s nightmare, the 32nd edition of the Kolkata Book Fair in Kolkata, India has opened with everything in place … except the books.

From The Times of India:

None of the stalls will offer anything to read to visitors who will have a free entry till Sunday. The reason: more than 60% of the stalls are yet to be fully constructed while the rest barely have a structure.

The Publishers’ and Booksellers’ Guild hopes publishers will start bringing in books from Sunday evening. But publishers are keeping their fingers crossed. “Let us hope the weather will hold or else who knows,” said Sudhangshu Dey of Dey Publishers.

And if the books still haven’t arrived, the organizers can always throw on a movie.
