It’s a crime

The Calgary Herald looks at the boom in Canadian crime writing, from larger houses to small imprints like Rendezvous Press and Dundurn’s Castle Street Mystery series. “As literary fiction has become increasingly inaccessible, crime fiction has filled the void,” writes the Herald’s Joanne Sasvari. The only problem, apparently, is the lack of name recognition for Canadian authors among readers. As Rick Blechta, president of the Crime Writers of Canada, tells Sasvari: “Did you realize that there are 200 Canadian crime writers? And people can’t name a single one.”
