Wilson hoodwinked over old poet’s “secret”

The Guardian has a funny story up about author A.N. Wilson getting hoaxed while writing his biography of the British poet Sir John Betjeman (who, incidentally, would have turned 100 today). A couple of years ago, Wilson came into possession of a letter supposedly written by Betjeman to a heretofore-unknown mistress. After Wilson’s book was published, a journalist pointed out that the first letter of the first word of every sentence in the letter spelled out “A N WILSON IS A SHIT.”

Wilson, who has been feuding with another prominent Betjeman biographer (though that might be entirely coincidental), told The Guardian that “I laughed about it a lot when I found out. It is quite childish of somebody and I have absolutely no interest in who wrote it.”

Spoken like a true shit.
