Amazon UK shoots itself in the foot
Scotland on Sunday has a story about Amazon UK making some less-than-wise book recommendations for customers purchasing Dunblane Unburied by Sandra Uttley, about the shooting of 16 students and their teacher in 1996 and the allegedly flawed and possibly corrupt investigation that followed. One of the books recommended was The Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy.
And it only gets worse:
“The website also recommended other books that those purchasing Dunblane Unburied might like to consider buying, including Gun Digest: The World’s Greatest Gun Book and Successful Rifle Shooting.”
Though a spokesperson for Amazon has (sort of) apologized, the page is still up. (See for yourself below.)
Making the whole issue more complicated is the fact that the printing of Uttley’s book was at least partly funded by the Sportsman’s Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which has been fighting to repeal the UK’s ban on handguns. They argue that the ban, which came into effect in 1997, would not have prevented the tragedy.
Sounds like rock-solid logic to us. Guns don’t kill — disgruntled former Scout leaders do!
