Rock & read, part 2: the rock novel
Following up on yesterday’s post about the fondness of metal bands for epic or romantic poetry, In Other Media would like to point interested readers to an exhaustive list of 50-plus rock & roll novels posted on the Bookslut website last fall. (Note: In Other Media has always preferred “rock & roll” to the clunky double-apostrophe “rock ‘n’ roll,” but concedes that the latter is the more generally accepted usage.) Among the best of the best cited by Bookslut’s Michael Schaub are Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments, Salman Rushdie’s The Ground Beneath Her Feet, and Don DeLillo’s Great Jones Street. And turning up on the overall list is Canadian Michael Turner’s Hard Core Logo.
