No, they’re not letting up

In yet another bid to popularize the presentation of books online and worm its way into the hearts of publishers, Google has announced a new offer through which readers can purchase the right to read a book, in its entirety, online. However, according to the story on tech-news outlet ZD Net, “purchasers would not … be allowed to save a copy of the book to their computer or to otherwise copy pages of the book.” The program, which will allow publishers to set their own prices for book views, follows similar plans announced last fall by Amazon.com and Random House. Figures on the numbers of publishers signed up for the service have yet to be announced.
