The New York Times releases its 100 Notable Books of the Year list

One of the year’s first best books lists is in from The New York Times. Heavy on non-fiction, the list’s highlights include Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and biographies on Mao Zedong and Robert Oppenheimer. Fiction and poetry highlights include William T. Vollmann’s Europe Central, the latest Harry Potter book, the latest collection of stories by Dave Eggers, entitled How We Are Hungry, and the new books by Elmore Leonard, Haruki Murakami, Dan Chiasson, and Joyce Carol Oates, almost the entire Man Booker shortlist, and the long-awaited, almost universally panned Gabriel Garcìa Marquez book, Memories of My Melancholy Whores.
