On accuracy

Today, Maud Newton publicized for the blog-reading world a gaffe in the current issue of Vogue. The October issue of the magazine features a review of Zadie Smith’s Booker-nominated novel, On Beauty, accompanied by a photograph of a jovial woman of possibly mixed ethnicity with a scarf wrapped around her head and a caption reading, “The author at a July 2005 movie première.” The only problem, Newton points out, is that the depicted woman is not Zadie Smith.
