The prize and the furious

The Faux Faulkner Prize, a write-alike contest, awarded its annual prize to a parody which likens George W. Bush to Benjy, the “idiot” of Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury, sparking a feud between the prize organizers and their financial backers. The organizers say that their sponsor, Hemispheres magazine, chose to display the story only in its online edition, rather than in print, because the story by Sam Apple (entitled The Administration and the Fury) is so politically charged. Hemispheres, however, says they merely hoped to draw attention to their website.
