Wondering why Harry has glasses?

The cub reporters who won a trip to Edinburgh Castle for the Harry Potter launch weekend have filed their reports. On CBBC, the BBC’s kid’s page, a transcript of their press conference with J.K. Rowling is posted, indluding questions from Canada: Eun Ji An for Raincoast.com asked, “I was wondering why Harry had glasses?” Rowling responded, “Because I had glasses all through my childhood and I was sick and tired of the person in the books who wore the glasses was always the brainy one and it really irritated me and I wanted to read about a hero wearing glasses.” Other questions range from the personal (“If you could have one more thing, what would it be?”) to the writerly (“Wondering if you have ever written anything before that has complicated something you wrote afterwards? Like A tells B something and B is not meant to know that until later, how did you get around this problem?”).
