The trouble with Kadare

The Literary Saloon and other blogs are weighing in on the building controversy around Ismail Kadare, winner of the Man Booker International Prize. A response to an article by Renata Dumitrascu on MobyLives.com, which calls the author’s “dissident” status false, an article on The Literary Saloon defends Kadare’s relevance, writing: “His balancing act between regime-darling and true-to-his-art (and hence subversive) writer is an interesting one.”
