Remembering a fallen Hunter
Author, reporter, broadcaster, and activist Robert Hunter — who died of prostate cancer last week at the age of 63 — is remembered on the B.C. website The Tyee. “Some people have said that without Bob Hunter, Greenpeace may not have become the hugely influential organization it is today,” writes Charles Campbell. “I will say what Paul Watson said this week: without Bob Hunter, there would be no Greenpeace.”
Doug Gibson, who worked on Hunter’s books for McClelland & Stewart, has also released a statement. “Bob was a force of nature, for nature,” said Gibson. “I’ve never known anyone who so deserved the adjective ‘merry’ and he turned his talent for merry mischief into a political art form, which Greenpeace continues to practise.”
Hunter’s most recent book was 2030: Confronting Thermageddon in Our Lifetime (2002); his first was the novel Erebus (1968).
