Granatstein buries the hatchet

The National Post reports that military historian J.L. Granatstein is the winner of this year’s Pierre Berton Award, which is given to an author who “brings the past to life” in their writing. As the Post reports, Granatstein has been a harsh critic of Berton’s work in the past, most notably in the review section of Q&Q, where he pointed out a number of factual errors in Berton’s Marching As to War. Granatstein has no qualms about accepting the $5,000-dollar cash prize, though. “While I do disagree with him on certain things,” Granatstein said, “I do understand his importance and his place.”
